Adjacent to Buffalo Bayou downtown, Lockwood Park is a brand-new, four-acre green space that expands on an existing outdoor area within the local Houston community. Our team was tasked with transforming the entire site from the ground up, handling a scope that was primarily a large-scale landscape and irrigation job. The result will serve Houstonians for decades to come, offering more outside space for locals to enjoy and unwind.

Our primary goal of the project was to work with speed, getting an extensive irrigation system installed and greenery planted as efficiently as possible. Our team had the advantage of managing the schedule directly without having to wait for other steps on-site to be completed. This gave us the control we needed to trench and lay a tremendous amount of irrigation pipe, and get in and out as quickly as possible.

The transformation involved planting a staggering 384 trees, including varieties like Southern Magnolias, American Sycamores, Red Maples, and Montezuma Cypress. In addition to the trees, our work included laying sod, installing steel edging, and managing drainage for a new playground that was constructed. To bring even more life to the landscape, we applied hydroseeding that will add wildflower and cover crop mixes to the property.

While the project was straightforward once we broke ground, several changes were made beforehand to improve how we met the client’s needs. We added more irrigation to ensure full coverage for all seeded areas and changed tree sizes to help the client stay within budget. To complete the park and make it ready for the public, we also installed practical amenities like limestone step pads, benches, bike racks, and various receptacles for visitors to use.

From an unutilized lot to a thriving public space, Lockwood Park is now a welcoming destination for the Houston community to enjoy and add to their outdoor routine.
