Alex Cowles holds a bachelor's degree in Construction Management from Sam Houston State University and has a diverse professional history, ranging from project engineering to management.
As Project Coordinator, he spends his days assisting with bidding, getting new projects up and running, and managing the near-constant influx of documentation and paperwork needed to keep projects going. Alex’s interest in construction was sparked by the idea of "taking an idea and making it a reality.” But it was a chance encounter with a retired engineer on a mission trip that would change the course of his career, a pivotal moment that took the idea of a construction career and steered it towards reality.
Alex’s stellar interpersonal skills, methodical approach to work, and energetic personality have led him to become a valuable member of our team.
"You don't evolve and grow in your career if you don't think outside the box."
My first job in construction, the widening and expansion of FM 1097 in Willis. It was a multi-million-dollar job that entailed about 4 miles of roadway and was my first full-time position with a construction company. So that’s what makes it memorable.
For my short time with B&D I would say it’s the Terrapin Park project. It's a $20 million job, and I oversaw getting all the bid documents together. Being relatively new to this position I’m proud to say that I was able to compile everything without any mistakes and we were awarded the job.
Thinking creatively to find solutions, whether it's a different route from the norm or, to sound cliché, thinking outside the box. It's about finding a creative way to solve problems and exploring all resources to get things done.
