Kelly Carmouche

Vice President

Kelly Carmouche joined our team in 2012. Before coming to work for us, he graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Landscape Architecture and spent eight years working for well-known landscape architecture and design firms, including SWA Group.

The combination of Kelly’s education and experience has proven to be invaluable to our company. His tenure at landscape architecture firms enables him to tackle hardscape installation challenges through his ability to envision the landscape architect’s intent, while also identifying what obstacles need to be worked through in the field in a cost-effective way.

As Vice President, Kelly provides guidance and input to other project managers on our team with the goal of helping every client achieve a quality outdoor solution. His ability to address issues before they arise and problem-solve are bar none.

“Think Outside means taking a step back and really assessing what the real issue is. I don’t think it’s coming up with a crazy idea that no one has thought of, more of finding the root of the problem. What’s the real underlying issue here? You could make the work easier or prevent an issue from coming up down the road just by taking the time to find the root problem. If you have a leaky roof, you don’t just buy some patch to cover it up. Let’s really dive in - what’s the issue? Stopping and really thinking about the problem and coming up with a solution is thinking outside.”

What was your most meaningful project?

My most challenging project to date wrapped at the beginning of 2020 for the University of Houston Downtown. It was incredibly challenging not only in the scope of work we had to do, but also that the client was a quasi-public university. There was a considerable amount of red tape involved and the project lasted nearly two years.

What project are you most proud of?

I would say the most memorable ones were Levy Park and the George R. Brown Convention Center (GRB). Those two are very public projects that not only myself, but the entire team enjoyed being a part of. When we work for a commercial client, whether it’s a large retail space or multi-family space or oil and gas company, it might be a beautiful project, but we can’t take our own families to enjoy them. With Levy Park and GRB, they are public spaces that we can visit with our families and show off the fruits of our labor. There is a great sense of pride that we feel and you can see that in our day-to-day work.

What does it mean to you to be a solution-ist?

To be a reliable source for problem solving. It’s not having expert knowledge of something. It’s someone that is able to find that answer or solution. I can reach out to someone who is a specialist in their field. You didn’t ask me to do it, you just asked me to find a solution. The more important word is reliable. I can ask this person to do something knowing they will follow through and do it.
